The Italian Federation have set their sights on Claudio Ranieri as the primary candidate to lead the Italian national team.
As reported by Il Messaggero, the current senior advisor of Roma is considered the right man to restore order and credibility in an environment in great difficulty.
The problem, however, is regulatory: the federal regulation prohibits national team coaches from having parallel roles in clubs.
Ranieri is still under contract with Roma until June 30, but from July he should become a simple advisor to the ownership, a role that would formally circumvent the incompatibility.
The FIGC, aware of the difficulties, is working on a “political” solution, while Ranieri has already given his availability, strong in his desire to end his career on the Azzurri bench.
Meanwhile, in Trigoria, the move has been received coldly: even Gasperini, the new Giallorossi coach and chosen with the support of Ranieri, fears a change in the internal balance.
The issue is far from closed and risks creating new tensions in Roma, even if the operation could become official as early as July 1.
