Roma boss Claudio Ranieri believes that the 1-1 draw with AC Milan last night at San Siro was a very entertaining spectacle.

Milan were forced to accept a share of the spoils to end the calendar year, and it would ultimately cost Paulo Fonseca his job as he was sacked not long after the game against his former club.

Things started the right way for Milan when Tijjani Reijnders fired in a pass from Youssouf Fofana’s feed, though Roma got themselves back on terms not long after through Paulo Dybala’s volley.

Both sides squandered chances to take control of the game and the end result was a point that probably means very little for two teams who would hope to be much higher in the table going into 2025.

Ranieri gave an interview to DAZN at the end of the game to give his thoughts on what was certainly an end-to-end contest, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Is this the best away performance from Roma since you’ve been here?

“Yes, I agree. Everything they did to us in the first half, we did in the second. It was a beautiful and vibrant match, where both teams tried to win. But the draw is a fair result and it entertained both the Milan and Roma fans.”

More Stories / The Match

How do you explain Hummels coming off?

“I changed for fear of Hummels getting a second yellow, without thinking about the yellow cards. With Celik we had three [centre-backs] and Saelemaekers was the wing-back on the right and Angelino the wing-back on the left. Then when we got the ball he had to move out wide and push forward.”

What did your do to Dybala to revitalize him?

“I think he helps the whole team. He trains continuously, something he couldn’t do before. This makes us happy. When Paulo is in shape it’s nice to see this champion.”

What will the derby be like?

“Now let’s recover our energy. Lazio are having a very good season, compliments to the players and to Baroni who is doing a great job. The derby goes against form and logic though.”
