In a rare moment of praise and positivity for Rangers, Jefte has left. We’ll leave that little mic drop there as Rangers sell Jefte for profit.
But being serious, the Brazilian, signed originally from Fluminese last season was, if anything, an extremely unimpressive player. Reasonable going forward, very poor at the back, and ultimately the saga to get him in itself was quite the caper.
Fans will recall the issues that Rangers had when Cypriot side Apoel put a block on Jefte in the first place. Rangers were trying to secure the lad, but his loan club in Cyprus refused. We’re not quite sure how that one worked out exactly, but he remained there instead.
It wasn’t until the following summer where Rangers finally secured the £600,000 signing of the South American. To now sell him for what will eventually become almost £7 million is a brilliant, brilliant piece of business and much more like how Rangers’ trading model should be.
The truth is he’s not worth anything like £7 million. Maybe he will grow and become a better player than he currently is. We suppose that is possible. But the Jefte Rangers had measured up to nothing more than a £500,000 left back. No more, no less.
So for Palmeiras to now happily shell out an initial £4-5 million rising to £6-7 million is outstanding work. And maybe the first good thing this new regime have actually managed to do, even if nothing else they’ve done has followed the same lines. Regardless, he is now gone.
And Rangers’ left back seems to have one player in Jayden Mughoma. He managed to somehow impress some fans and in all fairness wasn’t a total disaster in midweek. But it’ll take a heck of a lot more than one reasonable performance for Ibrox Noise to be convinced that he’s the answer.
He is of course on loan anyway, just like pretty much the rest of the entire defence. But as it turns out Jefte has earned us a heck of a good profit.
And we reckon at Ibrox Noise that we feel the same that Peterborough do about selling us Emmanuel Fernandes for £4 million. Thrilled, stunned and amazed we’ve got so much money for a very, very poor player. Rangers sell Jefte for profit.
But hey, the club managed to do it. Something good and positive at last.
