On Saturday, PSV Eindhoven lost to the Go Ahead Eagles in an Eredivisie fixture away from home, compounding their misery after losing at home to the same opponents in a cup fixture on Wednesday.

Oliver Antman gave the Go Ahead Eagles an early weekend lead, but PSV initially looked like getting revenge for their cup exit as Luuk de Jong and Noa Lang turned things around for a 2-1 advantage at half-time.

Yet Victor Edvardsen levelled in the 74th minute, before Antman completed his brace in the 87th to earn the home side all three points.

It’s ended up being a disastrous week for PSV. They were the apparent favourites to win the Dutch cup, after reaching the semi-final stage with many of the top sides already out. But then they lost 2-1 to the Go Ahead Eagles to be eliminated.

Then after leading the Eredivisie for most of the season, a run of seven games with just one win has put them eight points behind new leaders Ajax. Saturday’s defeat puts PSV closer to third than first.

There’s been some talk that all of Arsenal’s eggs are in one basket now, with the Premier League title race seemingly at an end.

Liverpool are 13 points clear of the Gunners having played just one game more, and Mikel Arteta’s side simply don’t look like catching up. If that’s an accurate assessment, the Champions League is the one trophy remaining to Arsenal.

Yet, last-16 opponents PSV are increasingly in a similar situation. Whether that’s good or bad news for Tuesday’s game between the two clubs depends on your perspective. PSV are in poor form, but they have every incentive to give everything against Arsenal.

It’s also worth noting that Saturday goalscorer and key attacker Lang came off early before the Go Ahead Eagles’ comeback, so he’s been rested for the Arsenal game.
