FC Barcelona continue to monitor the transfer market in search of a forward who can adapt to any attacking position.

Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford remains the top priority, with an agreement also in place with the player over personal terms.

However, in recent hours, another significant name has emerged as a possible option for the Blaugrana – Marco Asensio.

Asensio offered to Barcelona by Jorge Mendes

Indeed, according to El Chiringuito (h/t SPORT), super agent Jorge Mendes has offered PSG forward Marco Asensio to Barcelona as well as their La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old former Real Madrid winger has seen limited game time this season under Luis Enrique and his chances have taken a further hit now that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has arrived at the French capital club.

As such, PSG are looking to offload Asensio, with his agent now offering him to clubs in Europe, in hope of securing a loan switch for the rest of the season.

Barcelona, as a result, have been offered the services of the ex-Real Madrid star, along with Atletico Madrid. Neither club have made any move in this direction so far, however.

Indeed, Barcelona have set aside this proposal for the moment, focusing all efforts on securing Rashford.

The English forward is keen on joining the Catalans on loan for the next five months, but the club must first find a way to offload some of their own players. Ansu Fati and Eric García are the most likely candidates to move on.

As for Asensio, the Spanish international was once on Barcelona’s radar during his time at Mallorca, to the point of travelling to the Catalan city to negotiate his transfer.

However, Real Madrid intervened to secure his signing. Having enjoyed a successful spell at the Bernabeu, the 29-year-old left for PSG in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer.

There were links with Barça back then as well but nothing came of it. And, as things stand, it is unlikely that they will take up Mendes’ offer to sign the versatile winger on loan now either.
