Here’s our team of the week from the latest round of Premier League games as we head into the final international break of the year.

GK: Jordan Pickford – Everton

The England goalkeeper ensured Everton kept a clean sheet against West Ham United by making six saves, more than any other Premier League goalkeeper this past weekend. That included a brilliant stop deep into stoppage time to deny a deflected shot from Danny Ings.

RB: Kenny Tete – Fulham

Crystal Palace found a stubborn figure in Kenny Tete on Saturday as the right-back put in a typically robust display. The Dutchman completed more successful tackles (four) than anyone else on the pitch, while he also made two blocks, three clearances, one interception and three recoveries.

CB: Joachim Andersen – Fulham

Joachim Andersen has been excellent since returning to Fulham and showed Palace exactly why they should regret their decision to sell him when the two sides met at Craven Cottage. He played a pivotal role in his side’s clean sheet, making a monster nine recoveries, while he also completed more passes (77) than anyone in the game.

CB: James Tarkowski – Everton

Following a bitterly disappointing defeat to Southampton last week, Sean Dyche wanted Everton rediscover their defensive solidity and James Tarkowski ensured they did just that by leading the backline. The centre-back made five clearances, two interceptions, two blocks and two tackles in the goalless draw.

LB: Leif Davis – Ipswich Town

Ipswich got their first Premier League win in over 22 years on Sunday as they beat Spurs 2-1 away. Leif Davis created two chances, which is actually fewer than he normally provides. But it was going backwards where the left-back made his biggest contribution, making six clearances, one interception and six recoveries. The boy can defend as well as attack.

CM: Joelinton – Newcastle Utd

I’m going to take this opportunity to dispel a myth that has been floating around recently in light of Joelinton’s impressive recent form; no, he did not arrive in the Premier League as a forward. He arrived as a midfielder, but then-Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce saw this tall, strapping man and thought “that’s my target man”. Eddie Howe actually engaged his brain for five seconds and realised that was not his proper role.

Now that the Brazilian has been deployed in his actual position, he has been able to show off his true ability, which he did against Nottingham Forest. His marvellous performance was capped off with a wonderful finish in a 3-1 win for the Magpies at the City Ground.

CM: Carlos Baleba – Brighton

Carlos Baleba ran the show in midfield in the second half of Brighton’s surprise 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday. The Cameroon international caused the Premier League champions major problems and they couldn’t handle him. A super performance from the midfielder.

RW: Mo Salah – Liverpool

The timeless wonder that is Mo Salah scored one and set up another against Aston Villa to register his tenth goal and tenth assist in all competitions this season – and it’s only November! He’s now managed to hit double digits in both categories in seven of his eight seasons at Liverpool. Incredible.

CAM: Bruno Fernandes – Man Utd

Ruben Amorim will be delighted to see his compatriot Bruno Fernandes return form right before he takes up his position as Manchester United manager. The Portuguese playmaker played a part in all three goals as the Red Devils put Leicester City to the sword.

LW: Joao Pedro – Brighton

Joao Pedro returned from injury to make a massive impact off the bench for the Seagulls as they beat Man City. The Brazilian acted quickest to capitalise on a goalmouth scramble before providing a lovely assist for Matt O’Riley’s winner.

CF: Yoane Wissa – Brentford

One of the most underrated attackers in the Premier League, Yoane Wissa scored twice on Saturday to clinch victory for Brentford over Bournemouth in a five-goal thriller. He followed up a first-half header with a deft little chip over Kepa Arrizabalaga in the second to continue his record of scoring in every home game this season.

Premier League Team of the Week

4-2-3-1: Pickford; Tete, Andersen, Tarkowski, Davis; Joelinton, Baleba; Mo Salah, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Pedro; Yoane Wissa.
