Premier League predictions: 10 best goalkeepers of 2024/25 season - ranked | OneFootball

The 2024/25 Premier League is underway, and with it comes the return of 90min's Top 90 series, in which we rank who we think will be the best performing players of the season.

First up is our predictions for the top ten goalkeepers in the Premier League throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

From number ones fighting for Premier League survival, to ones aiming to win titles, there's plenty of top talent between the sticks to choose from.

Here's our picks for the ten best - ranked, of course.

10. Alphonse Areola

Areola is West Ham's starter / Catherine Ivill - AMA/GettyImages

The French goalkeeper was finally made the West Ham number one last season, and it's fair to say that he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Areola was sublime for the Hammers in 2023/24, making the third most saves in the Premier League and regularly bailing out his under-fire manager David Moyes.Now under the tutelage of new boss Julen Lopetegui, we're fully expecting Areola to continue his fine form at London Stadium during the 2024/25 Premier League season.

9. Dean Henderson

Oliver Glasner had a pretty tough decision this summer regarding whom he should entrust with the Crystal Palace number one jersey: Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson. Despite Johnstone making an impression last season, Glasner opted for Henderson and, so far, it's seemed like a pretty damn good decision. The new number one's recent form has seen him earn a call-up back to the England senior squad after a few years in the doldrums. Nice one.

8. Bart Verbruggen

Having starred for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 as the youngest starting goalkeeper at the competition, Bart Verbruggen is widely expected to take his game to another level in 2024/25. So far, those expectations look set to be fulfilled. The 22-year-old's shot-stopping ability and adeptness on the ball have been key to Brighton's solid start to the new campaign.

7. Ederson

Ederson was widely expected to leave Manchester City during the summer transfer window. In the end, the Brazilian ended up stayed in the north of England and has seemingly reclaimed his number one spot back off of Stefan Ortega in the first few weeks of the campaign. So why is the three-time Premier League Golden Glove winner so low on this list you ask? Well, truthfully, his form hasn't been particularly great for the last 12 months, with a few too many routine stops being made to look a bit too difficult. The Brazlian goalkeeper's City future will depend massively on his performances between the sticks in 2024/25.

Guglielmo Vicario was a huge hit in north London during his maiden season at Tottenham Hotspur. The Italian made highlight reel save, after highlight reel save, after highlight reel save, in 2023/24, and we're expecting much of the same during the current campaign too.

5. Jordan Pickford

Put simply, Everton are not a Premier League club right now without Jordan Pickford. In many ways, the England number one single-handedly kept the Toffees in the division last season by putting in a number of inspired outings in April and May. If Everton to have any hope of staying afloat in 2024/25, they'll need their goalkeeper to put in similarly fantastic performances.

4. Andre Onana

He may get a lot of stick, but one can't deny that Andre Onana has re-found some of his best form in 2024. The fact that he made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League last season proves it. Expect the Manchester United number one to continue to improve as he regains his confidence between the sticks in the coming months.

3. Emi Martinez

Arguably Aston Villa's best bit of business during the summer transfer window was tying down their star goalkeeper Emi Martinez to a new long-term contract. The World Cup-winner has been a key reason why Aston Villa have become a UEFA Champions League club, and they'll continue to be that so long as Martinez is at the peak of his powers between the sticks.

2. David Raya

Having ousted Aaron Ramsdale last season and earned a permanent move to Arsenal, David Raya looks like he's gearing up for a huge 2024/25 at the Emirates Stadium. Early season performances have indicated as much anyways, with the number one proving his worth both in and out of possession in the first few weeks.

Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world, never mind just the Premier League. Truthfully, no one is even close to being on Alisson's level right now. The fact that he's not conceded a single goal so far in 2024/25 is proof of that. He's different gravy.
