Rodrygo Faces Defining Summer as Man City and Arsenal Circle

Managerial shift puts Rodrygo’s Madrid future in spotlight

In a summer poised to reshape the very structure of Real Madrid, Brazilian winger Rodrygo is emerging as one of the most intriguing storylines. As Los Blancos prepare for a major overhaul in the wake of a titleless campaign, Manchester City and Arsenal have both registered serious interest in the 23-year-old forward—whose future in the Spanish capital is increasingly uncertain.

Sources close to the situation suggest Rodrygo is set for a critical meeting with incoming manager Xabi Alonso. With Carlo Ancelotti expected to depart at the end of the La Liga season to take over Brazil’s national team, the player’s role under Alonso will be reassessed before any decisions are made.

Premier League clubs monitor €100m-rated star

Manchester City’s long-standing admiration for Rodrygo has not gone unnoticed. Pep Guardiola’s side is understood to be actively considering a summer move for the versatile attacker. Arsenal, too, have made initial enquiries, eyeing Rodrygo as a high-impact addition to Mikel Arteta’s front line.

Real Madrid, while not actively pushing Rodrygo out, are open to offers close to €100 million (£86m). It’s part of a broader recalibration within the club: balancing the books, refreshing a squad hit hard by injuries, and clearing space for incoming talent. With high wages and increasing competition for attacking roles, Rodrygo’s sale is viewed as a potentially strategic decision.

Alonso’s era begins with overhaul in mind

Behind the scenes at Valdebebas, the message is clear: “Everything here is resolved in May. For better or worse.” After a campaign defined by disappointment in Europe and domestic cups, Real Madrid are preparing for their busiest transfer window in over a decade.

Up to five players could be moved on, with names such as Jesús Vallejo, Lucas Vázquez, and even Luka Modrić all in flux. In Modrić’s case, it depends on the Croatian’s willingness to once again lower his wages. Meanwhile, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy are also being evaluated, though both have complex contractual and fitness concerns.

Rodrygo’s own path is now tied to the vision of Alonso. If the new manager sees the Brazilian as surplus to requirements or a financial asset better used to secure reinforcements, a high-profile transfer could materialise rapidly.

Rebuilding plan includes targeted reinforcements

With Alexander-Arnold already lined up, Madrid are working to finalise up to three more signings. Their priority positions include left-back, centre-back, midfield and striker. William Saliba is highly admired within the club, while youth prospects Joan Martínez and Jacobo Ramón are also being monitored.

In midfield, the return of Nico Paz is under discussion, and up front, plans hinge on Rodrygo’s fate. Should he depart, Madrid are expected to pursue a forward in the mould of Joselu—a reliable contributor rather than a marquee name.

Despite early 2025 rumours linking Vinicius Jr to Saudi Arabia, those within the club expect the Brazilian to sign a contract renewal, underlining his importance to the next era.

Rodrygo, meanwhile, stands at a crossroads. His summer will be dictated by conversations, strategy, and suitors. Both Manchester City and Arsenal are ready to act—but for now, all eyes are on Valdebebas.
