A surprise Premier League club has identified Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho as a potential replacement for a key exit-bound player.
Garnacho’s time at United looks to be coming to an end, with the youngster unlikely to have a future at the club as long as Ruben Amorim remains in charge.
The pair’s relationship irreparably broke down towards the end of last season, which has seen Garnacho be included in the ‘bomb squad’ – a group of five United players who have been exiled from the first team and left out of the club’s pre-season plans.
Garnacho has not been short of suitors although concrete offers for him have yet to arrive. He has been linked to the likes of Napoli, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
It’s believed his preference is to remain in the Premier League, with United looking for around £40m, a sharp decrease from the £60m – £70m that they were demanding earlier in the window.
Now, according to TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing Garnacho, whom they’ve earmarked as someone who could succeed the departing Son Heung-min
TBR Football claim that Garnacho is on a Tottenham shortlist of players they could move for after missing out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
Tottenham triggered Gibbs-White’s release clause and it looked like they were on the verge of finalising a deal but in a stunning transfer twist, Forest convinced him to stay and pen a new deal.
The North London outfit have since been forced to go back to the drawing board and recalibrate before dipping into the market again.
TBR report, “Tottenham are one of the clubs monitoring Alejandro Garnacho, with the winger set to depart Old Trafford this summer. Aston Villa and Chelsea are also in the race to sign the 21-year-old, with Manchester United making him available for transfer this summer.”
“TBR Football revealed during the last transfer window that Tottenham asked about Garnacho before opting to sign Mathys Tel instead.”
The news outlet adds that Garnacho would likely arrive at Tottenham as a replacement for Son rather than as a creative playmaker. Son is closing in on a move to MLS side LAFC as he prepares to call time on a successful Premier League stint.
