The situation surrounding Dani Olmo at FC Barcelona is baffling, to say the least, as the Catalans have allowed it to reach a stage where the player could become a free agent starting January 1st if his registration issue is not resolved.

Indeed, Barça have until midnight today to register Olmo in La Liga or they risk losing him for free, thanks to a special clause in his contract.

As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that some of Europe’s top clubs are closely monitoring Olmo’s situation with the intention of securing his services during the winter transfer window if he becomes available.

The first club to show interest was Arsenal from the Premier League. However, the Gunners are not the only English club keeping an eye on the situation.

The rest of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ have also made contact. Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United, who had shown interest in Olmo during the summer, have renewed their pursuit, while Chelsea and Tottenham have also made inquiries.

Meanwhile, from Germany, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen have joined the list of interested clubs, while Olmo’s former club RB Leipzig have expressed their astonishment at the surreal situation, reminding him that he will always be welcome there.

Olmo faces ‘the biggest disappointment of his career’

As far as Olmo is concerned, though, his intention has been to fulfil his contract with Barcelona until 2030, considering that his dream had always been to return to the club and make history wearing the Blaugrana shirt.

For him, any other outcome would be ‘the biggest disappointment of his footballing career.’

However, as things stand, the uncertainty surrounding his registration continues to grow and with time running out, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona are successful in resolving the problem or are forced to part ways with their summer signing.
