Manchester City travel to the French capital of Paris on Wednesday night for a huge clash in the UEFA Champions League and their fate in the competition.
Pep Guardiola and his players are slowly but surely finding their feet once again, and most certainly in front of goal, having recorded a remarkable 0-6 away victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League last time out.
Matters in the Champions League were not as fruitful the last time City featured in the tournament in December, falling to Juventus via a 2-0 scoreline in Turin that made it a winless run of three games in the competition.
Luis Enrique’s side pose a stern challenge this week as both clubs find themselves lingering around the bottom of the Champions League’s league phase table, with the prospect of total elimination from the competition now very real.
There have been a few changes to the team news picture for Manchester City as Jeremy Doku misses out through injury despite a bright performance at the weekend, while John Stones makes a much-needed return to the matchday squad this week.
Ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming UEFA Champions League league phase clash against Paris Saint-Germain, here is how we predict Pep Guardiola will line-up his side at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night!
Having made a return for the last couple of matches, we believe there could be a change in goal to keep minds fresh in Paris this week, with Stefan Ortega Moreno coming in for Ederson between the posts.
Moving into the defensive unit and having seen Matheus Nunes impress in the right-back role in recent contests, we think Rico Lewis may take his berth back from the Portuguese for a mammoth night in European competition.
The central defensive pairing will remain the same in our opinion despite the return of John Stones and the signing of two new names in the position this week, with Ruben Dias partnered by Manuel Akanji at the heart of the back-four.
There are no surprises over on the left of defence with Josko Gvardiol expected to retain his place in the side in the absence of Nathan Ake, however it remains to be seen whether Lewis or Nunes could be used as a full-back pairing in future.
In the defensive midfield role, and with Manchester City yet to intensify their search for a new recruit in the position, the expectation is that Mateo Kovacic will take on duties once again, particularly after a strong showing at Portman Road on Sunday.
Bernardo Silva is believed to be set for a return and could alternate between his defensive duties and offering legs in attack, while we think it could be appearances in quick succession for Kevin De Bruyne, who appears to be back at his very best in terms of fitness.
Over on the right of attack and we think it could be further minutes for Phil Foden, who is finally emerging back at the form that won him several individual accolades last season and drove Manchester City towards a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Erling Haaland will lead the line, but is ready to face competition from Omar Marmoush in the coming weeks, with the Egyptian finalising the details of a move to the Etihad Stadium from Eintracht Frankfurt as we speak.
That leaves us with the left side of the front-three, and having seen opportunities for Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku very recently, we believe it will be Savinho who returns to a role where he found so much success.
Starting XI: Ortega Moreno; Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Bernardo, De Bruyne; Foden, Haaland, Savinho.
Substitutes: Ederson, Carson, Nunes, Alleyne, Stones, Wright, O’Reilly, Gundogan, McAtee, Grealish.
