Power Rankings are back as Europe’s top teams battle for rank in our table.
Here are the 10 sides in our updated Power Rankings table.
A Jekyll and Hyde week for Arsenal, who remain 10th in the table. Mikel Arteta’s men produced their best performance of the campaign at the weekend to thrash Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates. It was a statement win from the North Londoners, though the flaws in their game resurfaced in midweek. A disappointing defeat at Newcastle saw David Raya, Willian Saliba and Gabriel struggle badly, as Arsenal exited the Carabao Cup.
Nottingham Forest surge back into our Power Rankings table. If there’s a way to respond to your heaviest defeat of the season, this was it. Forest thrashed Brighton 7-0 in the Premier League last weekend with Chris Wood helping himself to a hat-trick.
It’s the club’s biggest top-flight win in almost 34 years and gives them a six-point cushion in the race for Champions League football. The season’s surprise package are closing in on Europe’s elite.
Barcelona drop two places in the Power Rankings table after an unconvincing, if important, 1-0 win over Alaves. Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the game as the Catalans clawed back precious points in the La Liga title race.
Job done for Bayern Munich over the past week, who beat Holsten Keil 4-3 to cement their place at the top of the Bundesliga. Two late goals for the visitors ultimately made the contest appear closer than it was, with Harry Kane on target twice for Bayern.
Bayer Leverkusen are breathing down the neck of Bayern, however, as the champions look to defend their crown.
Leverkusen eased to a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim despite Alejandro Grimaldo’s red card, before beating Köln in extra time to reach the DFB-Pokal semi-finals. After double success last season, Leverkusen remain in the hunt to repeat that feat.
Inter are fallers, having just about extended their unbeaten run to 17 Serie A games.
AC Milan have had the number of their crosstown rivals in recent meetings and made it three Derby della Madonnina meetings unbeaten this season.
Fortunately for Inter, Stefan de Vrij’s stoppage-time equaliser rescued them a result.
Real Madrid slip from the top spot after a setback at Espanyol. Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated the contest but were hit with an 85th-minute sucker punch when Carlos Romero found a winner for the home side.
The Spanish champions blew the chance to extend their lead at the top, one reduced to just a single point as things heat up in La Liga.
On Wednesday, Real survived a scare to beat Leganes in stoppage time and reach the Copa del Rey semi-finals. After blowing a two-goal lead, Gonzalo Garcia struck a stoppage-time winner.
Paris Saint-Germain are in fine fettle right now and unbeaten in 15 games across all competitions.
Fresh from a hat-trick in the Champions League against Stuttgart, Ousmane Dembele delivered another treble as PSG won 5-2 at Brest. The French champions followed that emphatic win with cup progression on Tuesday night, securing a 2-0 win at Le Mans.
Atletico Madrid have fresh belief in the La Liga title race after reducing Real Madrid’s advantage to a point. Diego Simeone’s side capitalised on a slip from their fierce rivals with a 2-0 win at Mallorca.
Copa del Rey success could also be on the cards as the Rojiblancos made light work of Getafe in the quarter-finals. Giuliano Simeone certainly did his old man proud, with two early goals in a 5-0 thumping.
Liverpool lead again after surviving an acid test at the weekend. The Reds took on in-form Bournemouth in the Premier League but came out on top on the south coast.
Mohamed Salah (Who else?) scored both goals in a 2-0 win, while Alisson Becker was superb in goal at the other end as Liverpool weathered some strong pressure. The gritty display of potential champions.
