Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain unavailable for Spurs ahead of their clash with Manchester United.

The North Londoners take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday evening, as Postecoglou looks to take a step closer to silverware.

Spurs have had to deal with several injuries of late and remain without first-choice centre-back pairing Romero and Van de Ven. Both players suffered setbacks on their returns from injury earlier this month and are not expected to return until the new year.

However, there was more positive news on Destiny Udogie, Mikey Moore and Ben Davies. The former is in contention to feature despite being substituted in the weekend win at Southampton.

“I think both will be in the new year,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference on Romero and Van de Ven.

“Not as significant an injury as last time with Micky but obviously having a setback the medical team is going to make sure he is right to go.

“Mikey is back in training. The next cabs off the rank are Mikey and Ben Davies potentially next week and Richarlison potentially first week of the new year.”

“There is no injury for Destiny Udogie but he is still sore from the [Sunday’s] game [against Southampton]. Not ruling him out but will see how he is with the turnaround.”

Postecoglou was also asked for his view on how Ruben Amorim has settled at Manchester United, following his appointment as manager last month.

“Seems to have come in and made an impact straightaway. He’s obviously tweaked the formation a bit and is giving players an opportunity. But as they showed at the weekend, they are very tough competitors. Looking forward to meeting him.”
