Inter defeated Red Star 4-0 in their first home Champions League game of the 2024-2025 season. Football Italia was among the accredited media at San Siro: here are the player ratings.
Sommer 6.5 – He stopped a shot with his body in the first-half and his ball control was always spot-on when under pressure.
Pavard 6 – After probably being initially scared by the pace of Red Star’s offensive players, he knew how to take the right measures to limit their dangerousness.
De Vrij 6 – He was repeatedly tested by Ndiaye’s physicality but somehow managed to cope with it. (64′ Acerbi 6)
Bastoni 6 – Not the most brilliant of his performances, as Inter looked a bit fragile down his flank in the first-half. However, he raised the level after the break, looking more confident. (74′ Bisseck 6)
Dumfries 5.5 – His physicality and runs were not accompanied by precision, as he created too little threat for all the times he was called upon.
Zielinski 6 – He probably lacked the creative spark coach Inzaghi expects from him, but always provided his teammates with a reliable option to manage possession.
Calhanoglu 7.5 – His first free-kick goal for Inter was just the cherry on the cake of an overall superb display. Every time the ball was on his feet, the Nerazzurri’s play speeded up. (70′ Asllani 6)
Mkhitaryan 6 – Wasted two great first-half chances that could’ve made the game easier for his side, but his presence was constantly felt through his tireless run and some illuminating passes. (64′ Frattesi 6)
Carlos Augusto 5.5 – Like his counterpart on the right-hand side, he was full of initiative but lacked quality in the last third.
Taremi 7 – A lot of off-the-ball movements and probably too much dirty work, but it pays off in the end – his ball recovery and pass to Arnautovic came in a key moment of the game, paving the way for his second assist of the night and his penalty goal.
Arnautovic 6.5 – Another average performance, this time salvaged by a goal. While his commitment can’t be questioned, the level of confidence and quality he brings on the pitch should be. (64′ Lautaro Martinez 7)
Coach: Inzaghi 7 – Despite changing as many as seven players from his side’s latest win at Udinese, he watched Inter put up a solid display and earn an important win, getting a comfortable response in terms of focus and determination from his team.
Red Star (4-2-3-1): Glazer 6; Seol 5.5, Spajic 5, Drkusic 5 (89′ Rodić N/A), Djiga 5.5; Krunic 5 (89′ Dálcio N/A), Elsnik 5.5; Olayinka 6.5, Maksimovic 6.5 (70′ Radonjic 6), Silas 6 (70′ Duarte 6); Ndiaye 6 (69′ Ilić 5.5). Coach: Milojević 5.5
