Borussia Dortmund traveled away to St. Pauli Saturday in a clash where both teams needed three points. St. Pauli is looking to stay above the drop zone, while the Black and Yellows are still hoping to challenge for Europe. Unfortunately for the home side, BVB came out on top.
The first half was underwhelming, with St. Pauli creating the better chances, and preventing Dortmund from finding any semblance of space in the midfield. Overall, not much happened but the best chance came from a Yan Couto long ball up the wing to Adeyemi, who couldn’t quite pull off the angle necessary to score.
The second half was a different story. Although Niko Kovač didn’t make any halftime changes, he did shift the team to a more attacking system. It was important we didn’t concede in the first half, but in the second, we needed a goal. Serhou Guirassy was the one to open the scoring, followed by a brilliant individual effort from Karim Adeyemi to make it 2-0. It’s an important win ahead of the UEFA Champions League match with Lille next week. Until then, here are today’s Player Ratings:
