Player ratings: Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 Milan – Musah madness costs Rossoneri

Milan had to settle for a place in the Champions League play-offs despite being in the top eight at the beginning of the evening, as the Rossoneri were beaten 2-1 by Fabio Cannavaro’s Dinamo Zagreb after being reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute.

Here are the player ratings from a disappointing evening in Zagreb for the Rossoneri.

Milan ratings

Maignan 6 – Needed to make a handful of important saves early on, but couldn’t do much to prevent Baturina from scoring one-on-one after Gabbia’s error.

Tomori 6 – Beaten by Pjaca for Zagreb’s second goal, but it was a very well taken effort and there wasn’t much the Milan defender could have done to stop it. Picked out Pulisic well for the Millan goal.

Gabbia 5 – It was his mistake from a relatively comfortable position that handed Dinamo an early lead. Not his finest moment. Another minor error also allowed Zagreb to slip in for their second official goal, which was the fourth time they had the ball in the back of the net.

Pavlovic 5.5 – He got away with it due to a handball in the build-up, but the Serbian also slipped, was beaten and Zagreb had the ball in the back of the net again early in the second half when he needed to make a tackle. Put in a big, brave tackle in the area shortly afterwards, though.

T.Hernandez 5 – Another evening where the Frenchman struggled to leave his mark on the game. His attacking contributions were limited when Milan went down to 10-men, and there were a couple of moments where it looked like he wasn’t fully switched on defensively.

Musah 3 – Two very poor yellow cards. The first was completely unnecessary, which then put him in a difficult situation for the second incident. With Milan already 1-0 down, he made the task a lot harder for his teammates.

Fofana 6 – A frustrating evening for the Frenchman in the middle of the park, who, like the rest of the team, had his job made a lot more difficult following Musah’s sending off.

Pulisic 6.5 – Provided Milan’s first real moment of quality with his well-taken finish inside the penalty area to get the 10-man Milan back on level terms. His fourth goal in eight Champions League matches.

Reijnders 5.5 – Often a stand-out performer for Milan over the course of the 2024-25 season, he wasn’t at his best in Zagreb, but neither were too many of his teammates.

Leao 6 – Showed a bit of versatility by playing as the centre-forward in the second half when Conceicao went for a tactical reshuffle. Thought he had won Milan a penalty, but caught a defender with his elbow in the build-up, which meant the decision was overturned.

Morata 5 – Subbed off at half-time for a tactical reshuffle following Musah’s sending off, but he struggled to get into the game over the first 45 and didn’t have any major opportunities in front of goal.
