Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola may be heading towards a decision that will certainly leave the club’s fanbase high on emotion, according to reports.

The 53-year-old is in the final few months of his existing Etihad Stadium contract and with no sign of any renewal talks, nor a decision having been indicated to the club’s hierarchy, fans have been left guessing as to which way Guardiola is currently swaying on his future.

Pep Guardiola is into his ninth season at Manchester City and some are wondering whether the temptation of reaching a decade in charge at the club will be enough to extend his contract beyond the end of the ongoing season.

Such is the uncertainty surrounding Guardiola’s future that a number of names have already emerged as potential successors to the Catalan coach, including Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.

And a new report from European media has seemingly indicated that a succession plan may come into action after all, given the current trend of Pep Guardiola’s thinking at this stage of the season.

According to the information of Sky Sports Switzerland’s Sacha Tavolieri, the changeover of Director of Football at the Etihad Stadium is also an indication towards the departure of Pep Guardiola at the end of the ongoing season.

While it is made clear that the Catalan tactician is yet to make a final decision on his next steps in the game, the report claims that the current trend is ‘more than ever towards a departure’.

To replace 53-year-old, it is claimed that Manchester City’s ownership and hierarchy ‘want to play for stability’, and have ‘defined’ Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim as a ‘preferred option’ to explore.

Links to Sporting’s Ruben Amorim also coincide with Manchester City’s decision to make the Portuguese club’s current sporting director, Hugo Viana their next Director of Football from the summer of 2025.

Long-standing director Txiki Begiristain has opted to bring an end to his hugely successful time as Manchester City’s sporting director at the end of the ongoing season, and some had believed over the summer that his departure would coincide with Guardiola’s exit.

However, that feeling has since changed over the last few months, and the current understanding is that Txiki Begiristain’s future is no longer connected to that of Pep Guardiola, who will make a decision on his career independently.
