There are positive vibes within the Manchester City dressing room that will no doubt excite supporters ahead of the brand new campaign.
With their Premier League curtain-raiser fast approaching, City have been in the final stages of pre-season preparations, blending physical conditioning with tactical fine-tuning and a friendly match scenario in Italy.
After a summer that included a Club World Cup venture in the USA, Pep Guardiola’s squad has enjoyed a slightly altered off-season schedule compared to previous years, with fewer matches and a stronger emphasis on training sessions behind closed doors.
The Etihad side head into the new campaign aiming to reclaim their domestic dominance while also competing on multiple fronts, including the UEFA Champions League and domestic cup competitions.
Following a season that demanded resilience, particularly during challenging winter spells that featured a run of damaging defeats when it came to trophy hopes, Pep Guardiola now appears focused on starting strongly and setting a consistent tone from the opening weekend.
Manchester City’s pre-season fixture against Palermo offered a chance to further integrate new arrivals, give an opportunity to an emerging academy talent in Divine Mukasa, and ensure match sharpness across the squad before competitive action begins in earnest.
Speaking during his latest media commitments, Pep Guardiola pointed towards the positive mood within the dressing room as the new Premier League campaign looms on Saturday evening.
“I’m happy since the USA and our [Club] World Cup. Our vibes were really good. We could not control the transition against Al Hilal but the players were really good. We wanted to stay longer, to build more of what we want to do,” Guardiola explained.
“We had one more week of holidays, we didn’t want to play too many games. Just training,” Guardiola continued on the summer beyond the tournament Stateside.
“It’s just a friendly [vs Palermo], no pressure. Now in the Premier League, I hope we will be more consistent than last season.”
Looking ahead, Guardiola’s emphasis on “consistency” could be telling. Last season saw City experience brief dips in form before rallying to secure major silverware, but the manager’s words suggest a desire to avoid such fluctuations this time around.
A settled squad, positive atmosphere, and a slightly lighter pre-season schedule could combine to produce a sharper start than in recent years. Supporters will also be keeping an eye on how quickly new signings adapt to Guardiola’s tactical demands, as well as whether academy graduates can stake a claim for more regular minutes.
If the “good vibes” translate into early results, Manchester City could once again set a relentless pace in the Premier League title race.
