FC Barcelona are held to a draw against Atletico Madrid in a truly end-to-end game. The first leg of this Copa del Rey semi-final did not disappoint, and the story is far from finished. However, Barcelona could have and should have come away with a win.

With an astonishing 4-4 scoreline, this was a game of a lot of ups and downs for Hansi Flick’s men. Pedri, Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, and Robert Lewandowski all found the back of the net, but Hansi Flick certainly did not get the substitutes right in this game.

Here are the player ratings for the Barcelona players.

Player Ratings:

Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5

Did not exactly cost Barcelona in this game but he could have done better for the second goal that Atletico Madrid scored. Apart from that, he was disciplined in terms of coming off his line and was comfortable when it came to his passing as well. Made some big saves as well.

Jules Kounde: 8.0

Despite a rather sluggish start in the early minutes, Jules Kounde picked himself up soon enough. Linking up well with his teammates, especially Lamine Yamal, the Frenchman soon ended up grabbing a crucial assist as well.

Pau Cubarsi: 8.0

Battling for every single ball and not letting anything pass, Pau Cubarsi was individually class. However, it was clear to see that the team was not doing well apart from him and the break in structure ended up costing the team. He did manage to get his goal, however.

Inigo Martinez: 7.5

Immense performance from the Spaniard despite the goals that Barcelona conceded. Always kept his head and even gave the team the third goal that gave them a comeback from 2-0 down to being 3-2 up. Strong display from the veteran.

Alejandro Balde: 7.0

Always available for his teammates out on the left flank, Alejandro Balde was constantly exploiting the space on that side. Moreover, with his dribbling ability, he constantly had the Atletico Madrid players be wary of his presence.

Frenkie de Jong: 7.5

The Dutchman was solid and more than reliable when he was playing next to Pedri. He had the time and composure to play the passes he wanted to and to play as he wanted to all around. However, once the Spaniard went off and Eric Garcia came on, even De Jong struggled.

Pedri: 9.5

There is simply no way to encapsulate the kind of performance Pedri gave in words. Always two steps ahead of any player that he came up against, the Spaniard delivered a masterclass yet again and there is simply no way to deny his standing as one of the world’s best players anymore. Ran the game from start to finish, and he was the star of the match.

Lamine Yamal: 9.0

A beautiful display of skill and intimidation from Lamine Yamal saw the Atletico Madrid defenders constantly mess up against him. The Barcelona winger created several chances, but his best contributions were arguably the trivela set-up he made for Jules Kounde to get his assist and the stunning assist he provided to Robert Lewandowski.

Dani Olmo: 7.0

Cool and composed, the Spaniard did his part well and connected play with his teammates. While he could not directly get a goal contribution, he was always willing to connect play with the rest of his team.

Raphinha: 8.5

When it comes to energy, Raphinha was clearly always there to deliver his best. However, it was his two sensational deliveries from corners that helped Barcelona get back into the game, and it also gave him two assists from this match.

Ferran Torres: 6.5

Was decent and reliable in terms of his pressing, but was underwhelming in terms of his finishing. Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, but just could not manage to find the back of the net in the first half. The second half was not much different and he ended up being substituted.

Substitutes:

Robert Lewandowski: 6.5

Got his goal thanks to the work done by Lamine Yamal, but was definitely not as effective off the ball as Ferran Torres when it came to his pressing.

Gavi: 5.5

Was clearly outclassed in midfield, and it was clear to see that Gavi was not the right player to bring into this game. Hansi Flick’s substitutes did not deliver this time out.

Not enough time or influence to warrant a rating.

Fermin Lopez: N/A
