Parma CEO Declares ‘We Were Lucky To Have Cristian Chivu’ – Also Delivers Updates On Two Inter Milan Transfer Targets | OneFootball

Parma CEO Federico Cherubini says his club were “lucky” to have Cristian Chivu as coach.

The executive spoke to the Gazzetta di Parma, via FCInterNews. He also gave updates on Nerazzurri targets Ange-Yoan Bonny and Giovanni Leoni.

Inter Milan made Cristian Chivu their new coach this summer. He replaces Simone Inzaghi on the Nerazzurri bench.

The Romanian may have only had thirteen matches of senior coaching experience before joining Inter.

But the Nerazzurri are willing to gamble on Chivu’s long time in charge of their youth ranks. And the job that he did keeping Parma in Serie A.

Parma CEO Federico Cherubini gave his thoughts on the appointment of Chivu. “We needed someone who represented a break with Fabio [Pecchia, former Gialloblu coach],” he said.

“We were lucky to cross paths with Cristian in our journey,” he continued.

“For many reasons. One of which hasn’t been spoken about much, his ability to build a winning coaching team in one team, with people he’d never worked with him.”

Cherubini said that “I’m very happy with the four months I worked with” Cristian Chivu.

“I knew him as a coach. I’d followed him. But not as a person, and that was a very pleasant discovery.”

Meanwhile, Cherubini also updated on Inter’s interest in Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny. “It’s no secret that they’re very interested,” he said.

“We’ll talk soon. When it’s compatible with Inter’s commitments at the Club World Cup.”

The Parma CEO then noted that “Parma already had a number of offers in January.”

“We asked him to stay and help Parma stay in Serie A,” explained Cherubini. “Then promised that we’d listen to offers at the end of the season.”

Then, Cherubini issued a warning regarding Inter-linked defender Giovanni Leoni, as well as goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

“It’s true, there are a lot of clubs asking about them,” the Parma executive acknowledged.

“But they’re not on  the market. The desire of the owners, and all the sporting staff, is to keep the both of them for another season.”

“Then anything can happen in the transfer market,” Cherubini admitted.

“But to date, neither Suzuki not Leoni have given any signs of temptation by the transfer rumours. And we want them to stay, because they’re two important players for our future.”
