Roberto De Zerbi’s name has been prevalent in the managerial conversation at AC Milan, but it seems that they are overlooking the Italian during the latest set of management reshuffling.

Last summer, and in the build-up to it, De Zerbi seemed like the obvious choice to come and replace Stefano Pioli, especially considering the work he had done with Brighton. However, the coach moved to France, and Paulo Fonseca left France for Milan.

Throughout the season, there were always distant discussions of a return back to Milano, but Sergio Conceicao’s hiring then made those rumours disappear. It seems that they are remaining in bed for now though.

Massimiliano Allegri is the clear favourite for the job, but there has been a growing interest in Cesc Fabregas it seems, with the Spaniard being coy about the role when asked.

For Franco Ordine, though, it seems like he would be much more in favour of the former Brighton coach taking the reigns than the Spaniard, and Milan News have his words.

“For the football shown at the San Siro, I realise that Cesc Fabregas is an exponent of the new generation of ‘giochisti’ and I paused to imagine what his contribution could be with a squad as technically gifted as Milan’s current one.

More Stories about Roberto De Zerbi

“I know that the Spaniard has promised himself with a long-term contract to the owners of Como and would therefore be unattainable, but on a purely theoretical level, many consider him an ideal profile.

“He does not take much care of the defensive phase (just look at the first goalkeeper, Reina, and the pair of central defenders Goldaniga and Dossena) but this is a deficit that can be remedied with organisation.

“The Italian version of Fabregas exists and his name is Roberto De Zerbi, who has the advantage of having grown up in Milanello’s youth academy.”
