The lowdown on everything Newcastle United ahead of the game

Coming into the game, Newcastle are in their finest form they have been in for quite a long time. The Magpies have won their last five games in all competitions, with four of those being in the Premier League. In these games, they have scored 16 goals, whilst conceding just one down the other end.

The truth is that Eddie Howe’s side have dangermen all over the pitch. Most notably up front, with Dejan Kulusevski’s international team mate Alekander Isak. The 25-year old has scored 12 goals in 17 Premier League games this season, including five in the last three.

On the left hand side, there is Anthony Gordon – who is a consistent threat in behind with his pace and directness. He has developed a serious partnership down the left hand side with full-back Lewis Hall, who has also seriously impressed this season – both tucking into midfield and going down the outside and overlapping.

On the right hand side, Jacob Murphy is seen as the weak point of the attack, with the right-wing slot one that Newcastle fans want upgraded more than most. However, he still has uses, and can often thrive off the space given to him with the gravity that Isak and Gordon attract. Spurs fans will remember all too well his performance during the 6-1 defeat at St James’ Park back in April of 2023.

In midfield, Howe has recently found a formula that has worked wonders. Sandro Tonali is currently holding it down as the number six, with Brazilian internationals Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes. The fluidity of the system means Tonali and Guimaraes will swap roles if and when it suits.

Back in central defence, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar have been a crucial part to the recent defensive record. Fortunately, the latter picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out, and is suspended for this one. However, Sven Botman is available to play after 10 months out with an ACL injury.

At right-back, former Spurs defender Kieran Trippier could start the game, having recovered from an injury sustained in their last game, although Tino Livramento has impressed this season and could start instead.

Finally, between the sticks, Nick Pope has been out for a while, but Martin Dubravka has deputised well in his absence. Still, that could be one for Spurs to potentially exploit. Let's wait and see.
