Fabrizio Romano shed some light on Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation involving Andre Onana and Emiliano Martinez.

INEOS are expected to change something in the department, but it remains to be seen if Onana will make way for a new No.1, or it will be a less significant action, with a new understudy arriving in place of Altay Bayindir.

Nevertheless, Friday was quite a busy day on this front, at least depending on circulating rumours.

The day began with Onana being linked with a move to Monaco. A report from L’Equipe claimed that the Ligue 1 side added the Cameroonian to their shortlist.

Afterwards, it was reported that Man United have directly contacted Aston Villa to enquire about Martinez.

Therefore, Romano had to tackle this topic in a Friday night video update on his official YouTube channel.

Andre Onana not in talks to join Monaco

First of all, the Italian journalist poured cold water on Onana to Monaco. While the French principality side is keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, the Cameroonian isn’t considered a priority target, and might not even be on the list.

That being said, the 29-year-old could still end up leaving Carrington this summer, but it would require a substantial offer, as Man Utd had splashed £47.5 million to buy him from Inter Milan just two years ago, and they wouldn’t want to register a capital loss. Moreover, Onana is enjoying his lucrative salary, and has no urge to depart.

Therefore, United’s best bet to offload the error-prone goalkeeper is to receive an enticing offer from the Saudi Pro League.

Man United’s Emiliano Martinez pursuit depends on Onana

On a related note, Romano reveals that Martinez is ‘open to joining’ MUFC, but INEOS can only sign him if they manage to sell Onana, so the two situations are completely entangled.

Hence, it remains to be seen what the coming weeks will hold on this particularly interesting front, but based on Romano’s updates, we shouldn’t be surprised if Onana ends up lingering at Old Trafford for a third year.
