Ludovic Butelle (42), who was born in Reims, announced on Monday that he was officially leaving the Champagne club, who were relegated from Ligue 1 last season.
“My journey with Stade de Reims has ended,” he said on social media.
Butelle had been with his hometown club for two years and was informed about his departure from the club over the phone. He was reaching the end of his contract with Les Rouges et Blancs on June 30. The man who won the Belgian Pro League title and Belgian Super Cup with Club Brugge didn’t play a single Ligue 1 minute at Reims after joining them from Red Star FC in 2023.
Reims reached the final of the Coupe de France last season but were beaten handily 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain, while they will feature in the second tier of French football next season after losing their relegation play-off tie with FC Metz, the club with which Butelle made his first senior appearance.
Butelle made nine appearances in La Liga for Valencia before a brief loan spell at Valladolid. He had two previous spells at Angers SCO and played for Lille OSC and Nimes among others.
