Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro will be in charge of Tuesday’s Champions League clash between Inter Milan and RB Leipzig.
This is confirmed by UEFA, via FCInterNews. The officiating crew for the match will be all-Portuguese except for one Spanish referee on the VAR team.
This coming week, Inter return to action in the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri have yet to taste defeat in Europe’s top club competition. They have also not conceded a goal in their first four matches in the competition.
Inter drew away to Manchester City in their Champions League opener.
Then, victories over the likes of Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, and Arsenal followed.
This sequence of wins has put Inter in a strong position as far as qualifying directly for the round of sixteen in the Champions League.
Inter will feel that three points in their next match would see them put one foot in the knockout rounds already.
But winning their next match will not be easy for Inter.
On Tuesday, the Nerazzurri host Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The Germans are having a miserable Champions League campaign, but their domestic form shows that they remain a formidable team.
Therefore, Tuesday’s match will certainly be a tough one for Inter if they want to extend their winning run.
The referee for Tuesday’s match will be Joao Pinheiro.
Assisting Pinheiro in his duties will be Luciano Maia and Bruno Jesus.
The role of the fourth official, meanwhile, will fall to Joao Goncalves.
In the VAR booth, Tiago Martins will oversee the match to ensure to correct any errors by the on-pitch officials.
Assisting Martins in his duties will be Alejandro Hernandez, the lone Spaniard in an otherwise all-Portuguese refereeing crew.
Inter will be hoping that the focus stays on the action on the pitch rather than refereeing controversy.
