Napoli have confirmed the exit of midfielder Piotr Zielinski, with the 30-year-old’s move to Inter Milan now imminent.

The Partenopei released a statement on Twitter, saying goodbye to Zielinski after eight years at the club.

It has not been in any doubt that Zielinski will be playing for Inter next season.

The Nerazzurri secured an agreement with the Polish international months ago. They had been negotiating with him during the January transfer window, once it became possible to do so.

Zielinski declined Napoli’s offer of a contract extension after negotiations stalled during the autumn.

The former Empoli and Udinese midfielder instead decided on a new adventure.

And it was Inter who swooped in to convince Zielinski that theirs was the right project for him.

The Pole will join the Italian champions, signing a four-year deal.

Napoli Confirm Exit Of Piotr Zielinski After Eight Years – Inter Move Imminent

Zielinski joined Napoli from Udinese in the summer of 2016. He arrived after two seasons on loan at Empoli, where he had impressed under Maurizio Sarri in particular.

Zielinski followed Sarri, and spent two seasons playing under the veteran coach.

Then, the Pole also starred under the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Gennaro Gattuso.

But it was under current Italy coach Luciano Spalletti that Zielinski really found his best form.

The 30-year-old was an indispensable part of Napoli’s starting eleven during both of Spalletti’s seasons at the helm of the Partenopei.

That culminated in Napoli winning the Serie A title during the 2022-23 campaign.

That was the first time in more than three decades that the Campanian team had won the title.

However, last season saw the Partenopei in chaos after the surprise departure of Spalletti last summer.

There were three different changes of coaches, and the defending Italian champions shockingly dropped to tenth in the Serie A table.

Zielinski made a total of 364 appearances for Napoli across the last eight seasons.
