After 10 years in Munich, Kingsley Coman leaves the Rekordmeister to join Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. The winger has helped in shaping one of Bayern's most successful eras, not least thanks to his winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final.
Al-Nassr have paid a set fee of only €25 million for Coman, which is less then expected, but bonus payments will increase the fee up to €30 million. On the other hand, Bayern have lost one of their biggest earners in the squad (€19 million per year gross), something the board has been working on for a few seasons now.
In Saudi Arabia, Coman will earn a reported €20-25 million per year (net), which is of course much more than he did at Bayern before.
Interesting side note: Al-Nassr's very own Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly played a key role in getting this deal over the line.
The Portugese superstar campaigned for the French forward internally, raved about his qualities and insisted he wanted him to join - which heavily influenced Coman's decision to leave Bayern, according to “BILD”.
At Bayern, the signings of Luis Díaz this summer and Michael Olise last summer have put Coman in the role of a rotation player - this could also be partially the reason why the winger was ready for a new chapter in his career.
Coman expressed a lot of gratitude and love on his socials for Bayern Munich, saying that he was “thankful to be a part of this club's history”. The Bayern officials also commented on the transfer:
"We would like to thank Kingsley Coman from the bottom of our hearts for a uniquely successful time together. With his goal in the 2020 Champions League final against Paris St. Germain, he secured a place in the club's all-time history. King will always remain a part of FC Bayern, and we wish him all the best in his new challenge", said sporting director Max Eberl.
Coman has played 339 games for the Bavarians, scoring 72 goals and assisting a further 71 during those games. Only Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich have been longer at Bayern than the 29-year-old.
Another modern day Bayern legend has left the club - time for new ones to write their own history.
