The Lega Serie A has decided to schedule the four postponed Easter Monday fixtures on Wednesday, April 23rd. This includes the contest between Genoa and Lazio.

Four Serie A Fixtures Postponed

On Monday morning, the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis at the age 88, leaving Italy in a state of mourning. Therefore, all sporting activities in the country have been suspended on Monday, including the Serie A contests. In addition to the match between Genoa and Lazio, Torino vs Udinese, Cagliari vs Fiorentina and Parma vs Juventus were also postponed.

Genoa vs Lazio Rescheduled on Wednesday

Nevertheless, the Lega Serie A was quick to reschedule these four matches. It has now been announced that these fixtures will take place on Wednesday, following a two-day delay. All four fixtures will kick off at 18:30 CET, as the Lega wants to wrap up the action before the second leg contest between Inter and Milan in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia, which kickstarts at 21:00.

This delay will give Lazio an extra breather, as they’re coming off a gruelling 120-minute thriller against Bodo/Glimt last Thursday, which left a physical and emotional scar on Marco Baroni’s men. On Saturday, the Biancocelesti will host Parma who are also involved in the rescheduled midweek action.

Nevertheless, Lazio were infuriated by the timing of the announcement. As La Lazio Siamo Noi explains, the squad boarded a charter from Genova to Rome at 15:00, just when the Lega Serie A announced the new date of the contest.

Had they been informed beforehand, they would have stayed in Liguria, instead of making their way back to the capital on Monday, only to make the same trip to Genova on Tuesday.
