Borussia Dortmund defensive prospect Almugera Kabar has officially received a professional Bundesliga contract. The 19-year-old former Germany U17 World Cup winner has made four BVB first team appearances this season. The left-back’s new contract runs until 2028. In all likelihood, Dortmund will seek a developmental loan for their teenage talent this summer.

Almugera Kabar’s rise to the Borussia Dortmund first team

Kabar’s introduction into the German top flight has certainly been a bumpy one. After making three brief appearances under Nuri Sahin this season, an outbreak of illness in the Dortmund camp famously led to an emergency start on matchday 16 encounter against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Kabar and his fellow starting debutant Yannik Lührs didn’t survive their “baptism by fire”, making errors that led to three Leverkusen goals inside the first 20 minutes. Kabar nevertheless recover to make some strong tackles and lead courageous offensive forays out of the back.

Dortmund have also tied three more talents – all the same age as Kabar – down to long-term deals this year. Kjell Wätjen (19), Cole Campbell (19) and Filippo Mane (19) all made the leap from BVB II in the 3. Liga to the first team.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Almugera,” sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a club statement. ”He is a local boy with great potential who has already made his main the past. He has a lot to offer in terms of his physique, footballing ability and character. We will work together to develop him step by step.
