As expected, FC Barcelona have officially announced that they have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of defender Clement Lenglet.

The 29-year-old centre-back has now signed for Atletico Madrid as a free agent following his release from Barça.

“FC Barcelona and the first team player Clement Lenglet have reached an agreement for the termination of the contract linking the two parties,” the statement from the club read.

“FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Clement Lenglet for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best for the future.”

Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla back in 2018 and went on to accumulate 160 appearances for the club.

However, the experienced defender has not played for the club in the past three seasons, having been loaned out to Aston Villa (2022/23), Tottenham Hotspur (2023/24), and most recently Atletico Madrid (2024/25).

Lenglet still had two years left on his contract with Barcelona but after extended negotiations, an agreement to break the deal has been finalised.

Now, with his contract terminated, Lenglet has joined the Rojiblancos permanently on a three-year deal until 2028, with the Spanish capital club announcing the deal.

As per journalist Carlos Monfort, it is believed that the French defender has agreed to waive his full wages, amounting to around €16 million.

This move will free up salary space for Barcelona heading into the summer window, helping them register new signings and contract renewals.
