After taking over at Inter Milan, Oaktree are laying their plans, and they include extending the contract of club captain Lautaro Martinez.

The American investment company has assumed control over the club as departing owners Suning failed to repay their loan by Monday’s deadline.

Oaktree is currently in the process of acquiring the club and making the necessary changes.

The US-based fund will also appoint a new club president to inherit the seat of the departing Steven Zhang.

Afterwards, Oaktree will confirm CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio in their respective roles.

This would allow the two directors to resume their operations in the sporting department, beginning with contract extensions.

The duo have been avidly working on the renewals of coach Simone Inzaghi, plus Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.

As the source explains, extending the contracts of Inzaghi and Barella will be an easy affair. The club already has an agreement in principle with the Italian duo.

On the other hand, Lautaro’s deal remains slightly more complex.

The Nerazzurri have been negotiating with the player’s agent Alejandro Camano for several months.
