After taking over at Inter Milan, Oaktree are laying their plans, and they include extending the contract of club captain Lautaro Martinez.

The American investment company has assumed control over the club as departing owners Suning failed to repay their loan by Monday’s deadline.

Oaktree is currently in the process of acquiring the club and making the necessary changes.

Sky Sport Italia (via FcInter1908) reveals the company’s road map which begins by installing a new board of directors.

The US-based fund will also appoint a new club president to inherit the seat of the departing Steven Zhang.

Afterwards, Oaktree will confirm CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio in their respective roles.

This would allow the two directors to resume their operations in the sporting department, beginning with contract extensions.

The duo have been avidly working on the renewals of coach Simone Inzaghi, plus Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.

As the source explains, extending the contracts of Inzaghi and Barella will be an easy affair. The club already has an agreement in principle with the Italian duo.

On the other hand, Lautaro’s deal remains slightly more complex.

The Nerazzurri have been negotiating with the player’s agent Alejandro Camano for several months.

Oaktree Aiming To Lock Down Inter Milan Captain Lautaro Martinez With New Contract

Earlier today, the captain’s representative reiterated the player’s desire to remain at the club for a very long time.

However, he insisted that the management must make reward his exploits with an offer deemed suitable to his status as one of the best strikers in the world.

The good news for Lautaro is that Oaktree has reportedly recognized the Argentine’s importance to the cause.

The American company is looking to bridge the gap between the player’s request (10 million euros per season as net wages) and the directors’ offer (9M) and reach a final accord.

The source claims Oaktree considers Lautaro a cornerstone for the club’s future. Unless they receive a monstrous offer, they won’t consider offloading the 26-year-old.
