Ramon Sosa’s time at Nottingham Forest has come to a swift end. As reported by The Athletic, the Paraguay international has completed a move to Brazilian giants Palmeiras, closing the chapter on a brief and largely frustrating spell in the Premier League.
Sosa arrived at Forest in August 2024 for £11 million from CA Talleres, with hopes he would bring flair and cutting edge to the wings. However, the 25-year-old struggled to establish himself, making just 19 Premier League appearances, only one of which was a start. His sole league goal came against Brighton last September.
Despite some brighter moments in the FA Cup — where he scored twice to help Forest reach the semi-finals — Sosa never cemented a place under Nuno Espirito Santo. With Forest pushing unexpectedly for European football, the team’s evolution seemed to leave him on the fringes.

As The Athletic reports, Sosa now returns to South America, joining Palmeiras, the four-time Copa Libertadores champions currently sitting fourth in Brazil’s Serie A.
The departure of Sosa is not the only change expected in Forest’s wide areas. Anthony Elanga, who has been instrumental on the flanks, is set for a £52 million move to Newcastle United. This leaves Forest needing reinforcements to maintain their ambitions in both domestic and European competitions next season.
One name on their radar is Johan Bakayoko from PSV, a dynamic winger who could fit the attacking profile Forest now seek. There is a sense that this summer is pivotal for Forest’s recruitment, especially as they look to balance European commitments with Premier League consistency.
While Sosa’s raw talent was never in question, his adaptation to the Premier League’s physical demands and tactical rigour appeared challenging. Returning to South America offers him a chance to rebuild confidence and form in a league where his pace and direct style may thrive. Palmeiras, chasing Libertadores success, are banking on Sosa rediscovering the spark that brought him to European attention in the first place.
Forest, on the other hand, need players who can make an immediate impact. With significant funds potentially coming from Elanga’s sale, they have room to manoeuvre in the market and reshape the squad in Nuno’s image.
Forest’s fanbase will be watching closely as the club looks to strengthen. With European football on the horizon, the need for depth and quality is more urgent than ever. Wide players with end product, resilience and adaptability will be at the top of the shopping list.
As The Athletic put it, “Forest will look to bolster their wide options this summer,” and that will define whether they can match or better last season’s achievements.
From the perspective of a Nottingham Forest fan, this transfer is disappointing but not surprising. Sosa’s signing came with hope, but week after week it was clear he was not trusted by the manager. One start in the league all season tells the story. We kept waiting for him to break through, especially when he showed glimpses in the FA Cup, but it never materialised.
The frustrating part is the wider picture. With Elanga leaving too, it feels like we are stripping away our attacking depth at a time when we should be building on last season’s momentum. European football is not forgiving, and if we do not bring in serious replacements — and not just projects or raw talents — we risk falling behind.
Fans also worry about recruitment. Names like Johan Bakayoko excite on paper, but we have been here before. Will we get proven quality or another winger who takes a year to settle, by which time we may have missed our window? The club has made progress, but this summer will test the ambition of the ownership and the football department.
In short, Sosa’s exit sums up a missed opportunity, and supporters are left hoping lessons have been learned.
