Nottingham Forest have made contact with Viktor Gyokeres to gauge the Sporting Lisbon forward’s interest in a potential move to the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are aiming to beat competition from Europe’s top clubs to land one of the continent’s most coveted centre-forwards. Gyokeres has breached 40 goals in successive seasons for Sporting, in a meteoric rise following his arrival from Coventry City.

Forest are keen to bring the Swedish striker back to the Midlands in a stunning swoop. Owner Evangelos Marinakis is plotting a bold summer in the transfer market with Champions League qualification edging closer.

Football Transfers are reporting that Gyokeres is ‘intrigued’ by the project at Forest, who have exceeded all expectations to challenge at the top end of the division this season. Among the pre-season favourites for relegation, Forest are third in the Premier League table with nine games to go.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both tracked Gyokeres in recent months but are understood to be prioritising alternative targets. Elsewhere, Manchester United are also suitors of the 26-year-old. Ruben Amorim signed the striker during his time at Sporting and is keen on a reunion with Gyokeres in England, amid the underwhelming form of Rasmus Hojlund.

However, United’s financial strength and appeal will be dented by a lack of Champions League football. Currently 13th in the table, the Red Devils’ best route of a place in the competition is by winning this season’s Europa League.

Forest hope a strong pursuit and ambitious project can lure Gyokeres to the club. Marinakis has ambitions of restoring the two-time European champions back to the top of English football and Gyokeres would represent a serious statement of intent.

He has scored 83 goals in 91 games for Sporting and was named Primeira Liga Player of the Year in 2023/24.
