Norwich City may have a gem on their hands after new man Papa Amadou Diallo shone in their 2-1 away win in the EFL Cup against Watford in midweek, as he was the provider of both City goals.

The Senegalese man signed for the Canaries on a four-year deal earlier this summer in a deal worth £4.3m, and may just prove to be a star signing for them after a strong start to life in Yellow and Green.

Prior to signing for the Canaries, Diallo was a much-wanted target, with it being reported by BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella via X that fellow Championship outfit Watford wanted the forward, but Norwich beat them in a race for his signature.

Upon signing for Norwich, Diallo said via the official club website, "It has been my dream to play in England – something new for me, but I am ready and prepared for the challenge ahead...I really always wanted Norwich City.

He went on to say, "I am excited about the project and the vision for this club and I can’t wait to come to England and meet my new team-mates and the supporters.”

After coming away 2-1 victors in their first-round Carabao Cup fixture away to Watford, Diallo played 62 minutes on his debut before being substituted for fellow new man Jeffery Schlupp.

The winger earned two assists to his name on the night by setting up early goals for Josh Sargent and Marcelino Nunez, which was met by praise from his new boss Liam Manning.

Manning said via Pink Un, "He had a really good impact... He should be pleased with his performance. He naturally puts people on the back foot, the way he carries, the way he moves with the ball."

Manning went on to say, "I think he's got that languid style about him where he's quite difficult to read.

"He produces some really high-level moments and I told him that at half-time, not that I'm sure he understood me to be honest!"

Diallo can play a big role for the Canaries

After Norwich kicked off their league campaign with a narrow 1-2 defeat at home to Millwall, Diallo was named among the bench for their season opener but was an unused substitute on the day.

The Canaries front three had a familiar look about it, being made up of Amankwah Forson, Ante Crnac, and Josh Sargent.

However, the arrival of Diallo and quality performance in midweek could give Manning some problems in terms of team selection.

With Manning having this healthy problem on his hands, we could well see Diallo make a starting appearance following his brace of assists, making the 21-year-old hard to leave out of the lineup.

Norwich are preparing to take on Portsmouth at the weekend - a game that could see Diallo once again play a big part in, and perhaps, his league debut for the club.

Having signed for Norwich fresh off the back of bagging seven goals and four assists in 29 Ligue 2 appearances for Metz, the Senegal international has now shown some very promising early signs that he could be a key part of the Canaries' future.

Should he translate his cup showing into the Championship, then Watford may well look back at this summer as the transfer window where they let a future star slip through their fingers to their second tier rivals.
