Bristol Rovers will be hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend when they face Northampton Town.

The Pirates lost 2-0 to Wycombe Wanderers last Saturday, which saw them fall to 18th in the Championship table.

The gap to the relegation zone is now six points, with 15 games still to play for Inigo Calderon’s side.

Only two points separates these two sides going into the weekend, with Bristol Rovers holding the edge as they travel to Sixfields Stadium.

Ruel Sotiriou danger highlighted

When asked which player should Northampton be most wary of this weekend, FLW’s Bristol Rovers fan pundit Ziggy Carter named Ruel Sotiriou.

He believes the forward has started to kick on under Calderon after previously struggling with Matt Taylor as manager, suggesting he can be a threat in Saturday’s clash.

“It’s quite a tough one, but I would put Ruel Sotiriou up there,” Carter told Football League World.

“I’ve watched him in most recent games, and he’s a lot better under Calderon than Matt Taylor.

“He’s been kind of running through teams, got a goal against Peterborough, which was very well taken, and I think he certainly has that danger about him.

“He can set something off, or he can get in a good position, and he can wriggle out of those spaces where there are a lot of people.

“So my player that the opponent should be concerned about is Sotiriou.

“He’s not quite kicked off at the start of the season, but he looks a lot better now, he looks a lot more dangerous.

“And with a team like Northampton, I think he can do a lot of damage against them.”

Bristol Rovers have won four from 11 games since Calderon was appointed in December.

Big clash ahead for Bristol Rovers

Sotiriou has only scored three times from 24 appearances in League One this season, but two of those have come in recent weeks.

The forward is starting to find his feet, and his performances have improved under Calderon, so he could be a threat in this weekend’s big game.

A win for Bristol Rovers would be huge for their survival hopes, moving them five clear of Northampton in the table, and potentially nine from the bottom four.

However, a defeat would only serve to highlight just how much of a risk there is that the club could fall into the relegation zone unless they can improve.
