A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has confirmed that the investigation into the alleged racist abuse suffered by Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde during a match against Getafe has been officially closed.

The case has ended without any sanctions being issued against the Madrid-based club, as the authorities were unable to confirm the existence of the racist behaviour.

It must be noted that the incident in question took place during a La Liga match in January, when Balde informed referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes of racial insults being directed at him from the stands.

The alleged abuse was reported during halftime, and the referee noted the complaint in his official match report. According to the document, Balde told the referee’s assistant that he had heard racist messages from the crowd.

Following protocol, the referee then informed the team delegates and UCO (match security), and the anti-racism procedure was initiated before the second half began.

Investigation failed to confirm racist chants

In the days that followed, La Liga filed a formal complaint with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as is standard procedure in such cases.

The report mentioned that racist chants were allegedly heard coming from the stands at Getafe’s stadium. La Liga president Javier Tebas also supported the investigation by personally submitting a request to open proceedings.

On January 22, the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee responded by launching an extraordinary investigation to examine the matter in detail.

This included a deeper review of available evidence and testimonies to determine whether any racially motivated abuse had taken place.

Despite these efforts, the investigation concluded without sufficient evidence to confirm what was said or whether the abuse had actually occurred. As a result, the case was closed, and no disciplinary measures were taken against Getafe.
