Christopher Nkunku is open to a move to Manchester United before next week’s transfer deadline.
Nkunku has expressed interest in leaving Chelsea after struggling for regular first-team football this season. A move to Manchester United has been mooted, amid Chelsea’s interest in signing Alejandro Garnacho from the Red Devils.
Chelsea have held talks with Manchester United over a deal for Garnacho, who is valued at around £59m at Old Trafford. United are prepared to consider offers for the 20-year-old to fund Ruben Amorim’s rebuild of the squad.
A potential swap deal has been discussed and Sky Germany are reporting that Nkunku is open to the transfer. The France international signed for Chelsea in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig in 2023 and endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The emergence of Cole Palmer has restricted his minutes since returning, despite an impressive goal record in cup competition.
Nkunku has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season despite starting just 13 games. Manchester United are keen to boost their firepower with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee enduring difficult campaigns.
Bayern Munich are also interested in Nkunku but a move is dependent on the future of Mathys Tel.
The 19-year-old could reconsider his decision to stay at the Bundesliga side, with several clubs having expressed interest in the forward. Chelsea are among the Frenchman’s suitors. Tel has not featured for Bayern in the club’s last three matches and has started just twice in the Bundesliga this season. Earlier this week it was reported that seven clubs have approached Bayern to discuss the conditions of a loan deal.
