Paris Saint Germain & coach Luis Enrique suffered brutal wake up call as their quest for historic 5th title ended in heartbreak with shocking 3 - 0 defeat to Chelsea in the 2025 FIFA Club World cup final at MetLife Stadium.

From Dominance to Disaster

PSG'd dazzled Europe this season sweeping the ligue 1, Coupe de France, French Super cup and winning the Champions league for the 1st time in history after crushing Inter Milan 5 - 0 in the final on 31 May at the Allianz Arena.

The Parisian giants bulldozed through opponents like Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal & Bayern Munich and breezed past Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders. However they were stunned by Botafogo in the group stage before crashing to ruthless Chelsea in the final.

Post match, tensions exploded. Enrique clashed with Chelsea striker Joao Pedro knocking the Brazilian to the ground in heated scuffle drawing widespread criticism. Star players Achraf Hakimi & Gianluigi Donnarumma also lost control visibly shaken after the defeat.

Midfielder Joao Neves received red card for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair adding to PSG's disciplinary woes. Earlier in the campaign, Willian Pacho & Lucas Hernandez were both sent off against Bayern Munich in the quarter final, though PSG won that game 2 - 0 despite being shorthanded.

Discipline Growing Concern

PSG ended their international campaign with 4 red cards in major knockout matches highlighting glaring mental discipline issue. Since Enrique’s arrival in 2023, the team has received 7 red cards including 3 in ligue 1 (Donnarumma, Beraldo, Barcola).

What’s Next for Enrique?

After conquering Europe with flawless Champions league run, Enrique now faces increased pressure to tame PSG’s fiery temperament. If not addressed, this lack of composure could jeopardize their hopes of repeating success in the upcoming european season.
