Nico Williams explains decision to reject Barcelona for Athletic Club | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Nico Williams has on Friday provided an insight into his decision to reject the advances of Barcelona for the 2nd year running, to pen fresh terms in Bilbao.

Wide-man Nico has of course taken his place front and centre in the headlines throughout Spain across the day to date.

This comes after the 22-year-old left fans shocked, in committing to a contract with Athletic Club all the way through the summer of 2035.

Despite having come to an agreement on the terms of a deal with Barcelona several weeks ago, the Spanish international has decided against linking up with Hansi Flick’s squad.

So, just what motivated Nico to reject the advances of one of world football’s biggest clubs… again?

Speaking in the aftermath of his long-term San Mamés renewal being announced, the explosive winger had the following to say:

“When it comes to making decisions, for me the most important thing is to listen to your heart. I am where I want to be, with my people. This is my home.”
