Nice and Manchester United will be allowed to compete in next season’s Europa League | OneFootball

UEFA’s Financial Control Body have announced that OGC Nice and Manchester United will both be allowed to compete in the Europa League after they were able to demonstrate to the governing body that they had enacted changes that would bring them into compliance with the multi-club ownership rule.

The clubs could prove that no one was simultaneously involved in any capacity (directly or indirectly) with the management, administrative, or sporting performance of more than one team participating in a UEFA competition. And that no one had control or decisive influence over both Manchester United and Nice.

INEOS have transferred their shares in Nice into a blind trust as part of their cooperation with UEFA’s rules. This will prevent INEOS having control or being part of the decision-making process for Nice with these responsibilities falling under the control of the trustee placed in charge of the club until the 1st of July 2025 (when the trust will transfer its shares back to INEOS).

UEFA also revealed that the clubs will not be able to transfer players to one another or use a shared scouting database until the end date of the trust. Something that has prevented Manchester United from acting on their interest in in Jean-Clair Todibo (24).

This ruling will also impact Manchester City and Girona who have likewise proven their compliance with the multi-club ownership rule and can both compete in the Champions League.
