Newcastle United return to Premier League action tonight when Brentford visit St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side celebrated Carabao Cup success before the international break, as the Magpies beat Liverpool at Wembley. Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed a 2-1 win for Newcastle. That win ended the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.
Thousands of fans aligned the streets of Newcastle for the parade, but attention now turns back to the Premier League.
Newcastle are in strong contention to secure Champions League qualification and just two points from the top four. Securing a place in Europe’s elite competition and silverware would make this a dream campaign for the club.
Eddie Howe is short of defensive depth with Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Lewis Hall all sidelined for the Magpies. Dan Burn – who made his England debut during the break – will continue in central defence alongside Fabian Schar.
Further forward, Anthony Gordon has a hip issue picked up on international duty with England. Harvey Barnes is expected to keep his place on the left, joining Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy in the forward line.
Newcastle predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Barnes, Isak.
Newcastle host Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday 2nd April 2025. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 19:45 BST.
The fixture has not been selected for live coverage in the UK.
