However, Sky Sports News have now confirmed that the flight carrying the Newcastle United players and officials, flew from Newcastle and touched down at Southampton on Friday afternoon.

As for the actual match itself today, a glance at the forecast for Southampton, shows sunny and light winds, with no rain forecast.

Eddie Howe saying on Friday morning when speaking from the training ground at his press conference:

“It is windy today and I struggled to get in [to work].

“Hopefully we can find a place that is sheltered enough [to train], we do have a dome here.

“We will find the safest place.”

Eddie Howe asked about the Newcastle United squad travelling to Southampton:

“Our travel plans may be affected.

“We will check with the authorities.

“We’ll see how it goes today.

“Our plan, as always [with an away match], is to travel today.

“If it is not safe to fly, we will fly tomorrow.

“It is a long journey [by coach] and no guarantee that an eight or nine hour journey won’t turn into a twelve or thirteen hour journey.

“So it is best that we look to fly.

“We have travelled before on the day of a game.

“Sometimes that is the easiest way, as you are in and you are out [quickly, on the same day].”
