Newcastle United have now rejected a €13 (approx £11m) bid from Juventus for Lloyd Kelly.
He reports/claims that Newcastle United have told Juventus that their valuation is £17m (approx €20m), if the Serie A club want to land the player in this transfer window.
Juventus have had something of a strange season in Serie A, as they sit fourth place in the league despite currently being unbeaten. Picking up an astonishing 13 draws in their 21 league matches.
With Chris Smalling and Fikayo Tomori being some of the standouts, English defenders have seemingly been adapting well to Italian football in recent years, with Juventus now looking to replicate these successes.
Lloyd Kelly hasn’t featured much for Newcastle this season, appearing only nine times in the Premier League so far, with most of those appearances coming from late substitutions.
Newcastle fans generally haven’t been particularly impressed with Kelly so far, however, he certainly hasn’t been given much time on the pitch to prove himself.
Ideally, Newcastle would not want to offload defensive cover in the middle of the season, however, given our current PSR situation, we have to be realistic about who are our most sellable assets in terms of players who are not regular starters, yet will generate a decent fee.
Following his signing on a free transfer from Bournemouth in the summer, any fee paid towards Kelly will be pure profit, both from a cash and PSR perspective.
All things considered, a relatively significant fee for Lloyd Kelly after only half a season, would be some very solid business for Newcastle United, as well as potentially a very enticing move for Kelly himself, if he was to get regular first team football at a club such as Juventus.
