Yankuba Minteh has been sold to Brighton.

A Newcastle United official announcement in the early hours of Monday morning revealing the news.

No mention of what the transfer fee was, however, it was widely reported that a £33m fee had been agreed with Brighton for the winger who cost around £6.5m in summer 2023.

The briefest of club statements containing only three lines, wishing the player well and the basic news that he has gone to the south coast club.

All a bit surreal to have signed a player and him leaving for such a significant fee, yet never once having played for Newcastle United.

As seems crystal clear, Yankuba Minteh seemingly sold simply to ensure Newcastle United ended up on the right side of PSR with the latest accounting year ending on Sunday 30 June 2024.

‘Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh has moved to fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent basis.

The 19-year-old Gambia international joined the Magpies from Danish side OB last summer and spent the duration of the 2023-24 season on loan at Feyenoord.
