Like all other Newcastle United members, I was a ‘little’ disappointed when the club on Monday announced how Carabao Cup final tickets would be sold.
For the 2023 final against Man U, Newcastle United members had a small number of tickets ringfenced for a ballot, around a thousand tickets I understand it was.
Next to no chance of getting one of them BUT at least some hope.
On Monday, myself and other Newcastle United members wondering how many tickets would be ringfenced for ourselves? Obviously accepting that the vast majority would still go to season ticket holders.
Would it be 1,000 again? Maybe 2,000 or 3,000? Even possibly 5,000 or more, if Newcastle United were to do what every other major Premier League club does when getting to regular cup finals/big matches. Which is, put the majority of Cup Final tickets in a process for season ticket holders, then a decent size minority of the ticket allocation in a process for members.
Monday’s announcement revealed that not a single Cup Final ticket would automatically go into a process for Newcastle United members.
That the first three days of sales and the first three pots, would see season ticket holders guaranteed tickets, if they met the criteria of having attended cup matches as well.
Then there would be a pot four and a pot five, both of these with a ballot for season ticket holders, though no guarantee of a ticket and indeed no guarantee these ballots would even go ahead. Dependent on any Carabao Cup tickets left over from pots one to three.
Then…Newcastle United members could fill their boots in the Pot six ballot. Fighting it out with any remaining season ticket holders, that is in the very unlikely position that any tickets remained.
Well, just to ensure we were left in no doubt as to our ‘chances’ of Carabao Cup tickets, Newcastle United members have received this email below from the club…
Official email sent by club to Newcastle United members – 13 February 2025:
‘Watch our Carabao Cup Final from Shearer’s!

There will be a live DJ from 11am, free pre-match face painters, competitions for signed shirts and match tickets, a photobooth, food available all day, 50+ televisions for the perfect view and live commentary of the game.
As part of your Mags Membership benefits, you can secure your place in Shearer’s from 3pm today for a reduced price of £5. Tickets will then go on general sale tomorrow to all supporters for £10.
I just checked and the Pot Six ballot for Newcastle United members isn’t even scheduled to take place until eleven (ELEVEN) days time!! Yes, Monday 24 February 2025 when that ballot is ‘scheduled’ for.
Nice of the club to spell it out already, just what our hopes are of a single one of the Carabao Cup tickets reaching any of the Newcastle United members.
As the old joke goes, we have three hopes – No hope, Bob Hope and Westerhope!
At least I can laugh, well, kind of.
The lack of respect for Newcastle United members from the Newcastle United owners/hierarchy is staggering.
