Although their financial conditions will determine their moves in the next summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are still quite clear about the positions that they want to strengthen ahead of the next season.
One of these areas that the Blaugranes have identified for reinforcement is that of the left wing, as they want to bring more depth into their forward line. Furthermore, they can also make a move for a striker who can be the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, as the Pole is already 36 years of age.
One player who could meet both these criteria for the Catalans is the Newcastle United forward, Alexander Isak. However, getting him will not really be easy for Barcelona, as the Magpies have no intentions of letting their star leave.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, this was made clear by the Executive Director of the Premier League side, Darren Eales, while talking to English media outlets. Despite Isak’s links with several clubs, the executive ensured that he would not be up for sale:
“We strive, as a club, to be at the top of the table. We want our best players to be here. I think it shows Isak’s value that people talk about him all the time. We are not looking to move any player.”
Furthermore, Eales went on to explain that the contractual situation of the player also means they will be under no pressure to sell him:
“Everyone has long-term contracts. We have no intention of letting those players leave. We are not under any pressure or anything like that.”
He went on to claim that even considering such a possibility is out of the question:
“We have an ownership that is ambitious and wants the best for the club. So, from that perspective, it would be crazy for us to even consider it.”
This season, Isak has been one of the stand-out players in the Premier League and has scored 22 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions. Thus, it is easy to understand why Barcelona want him, but getting him will not really be easy, as is clear from Eales’ comments.
