In a recent report, journalist Fraser Fletcher mentioned that Newcastle United are working on a deal to land Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga. It has been stated that the Magpies are eager to bring the Swedish playmaker to Tyneside this summer.

Elanga’s Impressive Form In English Football Last Season

Elanga had a decent campaign at the Midlands club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old registered six goals and picked up 12 assists in 43 matches for Nottingham last season in multiple competitions.

The Sweden international did well to average 1.58 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League and kept 54.5% of his attempts on target. However, Elanga has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 65.3% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the English club will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to snap him up on the cheap this off-season.

Is Elanga A Decent Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Elanga can use his pace well at times to get the better of his marker out on the flanks. He is a good dribbler with the ball and can engineer some inviting chances for his teammates to find the back of the net.

The Swedish talent can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, he needs to find a way to improve his passing accuracy in the final third.

Elanga mainly functions as a right-sided wide player. However, he can also fill in as a left-winger or play as a centre-forward up top if told to do so by his manager.

Elanga has already proven himself in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Eddie Howe’s frontline.

At 23, Elanga has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the Tyneside club to consider in this summer transfer period. He might even help the Magpies compete across all fronts over the next few years. Thus, Newcastle should focus on getting a deal done for him soon.
