In a recent report, journalist Dominic Scurr claimed that Newcastle United are eyeing a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko. It has been revealed that the Magpies are eager to strengthen their squad by recruiting the Belgian wide player this summer.
Bakayoko enjoyed a decent run of form at the Dutch club after he put in a series of impressive displays in the final third. The Belgian talent participated in 47 matches for PSV Eindhoven last season, scoring 12 times and earning three assists across all competitions.
The 22-year-old proved his worth on the right flank by averaging 3.42 shots per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He kept 45% of his attempts on target. Bakayoko was even tidy when distributing possession as he completed 79.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Duch football (stats via fbref.com).
The Belgian wing wizard’s current contract at PSV will run out at the end of next season. Therefore, it makes sense for Newcastle to try and sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.

Bakayoko is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
Bakayoko can contribute by scoring a handful of important goals for his team from the wide areas. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
We can expect Bakayoko to enhance the quality of Newcastle‘s frontline in the long run. He has what it takes to fight for a regular spot in Eddie Howe’s first XI next season.
At 22, Bakayoko has got a promising future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve with each year. Hence, he would be an excellent choice for the Magpies to consider in this summer transfer period. Bakayoko could prove to be a success story at the Tyneside club in the long run. With all things considered, Howe should consider getting him on board this summer.
