Newcastle United announce the arrival of Malick Thiaw | OneFootball

Newcastle United have officially announced the signing of German defender Malick Thiaw from Serie A outfit AC Milan.

The 24-year-old joins the Magpies on a long-term deal for an initial €36 million plus €4 million in add-ons.

Standing at 6’4”, Thiaw is renowned for his physical presence while also possessing great composure on the ball.

He can seamlessly slot in as a centre-back, full-back or even as a holding midfielder.

“I can’t wait to start training and to get to know my new teammates and all the staff.

“The gaffer showed me his vision and what he wants to do with me as a player and the club itself, which is really exciting. I think Newcastle speaks for itself.

“It’s a great club, a big club with passionate fans who I can’t wait to see at St James’ Park.”

Joining Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale, Thiaw is Newcastle’s third signing of the summer window and a much-welcome one given the series of disappointments the club has suffered in the market of late despite having Champions League football on offer.

With Alexander Isak’s long-term future increasingly looking uncertain, Newcastle remain keen on bringing in at least one new striker before the window shuts in early September.

Yoane Wissa, Nicolas Jackson and Samuel Aghehowa have all been linked with a move to Tyneside.

Newcastle are also targeting reinforcements in midfield and are currently in contact with Aston Villa over a deal for Jacob Ramsey.
