Newcastle and Liverpool set to compete for Ekitiké

Liverpool and Newcastle United are both interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké.

The 23-year-old is in high demand this summer after scoring 22 goals and assisting 12 more for the German side last season.

According to journalist Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, the Magpies were unhappy with the Premier League champions' interest in Alexander Isak, with rumours indicating Liverpool were to bid around £120 million for the Swede.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe wants to bring in Ekitiké to complement Isak both as a back up and to play alongside him.

Newcastle reportedly had a £65 million bid already rejected for the former Paris Saint-Germain forward and interest from Liverpool is likely to see the prize for the player rise, although Arne Slot's team are yet to make a formal bid for the player.
